BARRISTER ELVIS N. BONGAM ADMITTED ON THE LIST OF COUNSELS ON THE ROSTER OF THE AFRICAN COURT ON HUMAN AND PEOPLE’S RIGHTS DURING THE 77TH SESSION (2-27 JUNE 2025). ELVIS N. BONGAM RESPONDED TO THIS MILESTONE BY SAYING THAT as a national of Cameroon, a country with a proud bi-jural and bilingual legal heritage, I have been shaped by both civil and common law traditions and legal cultures. This foundation, along with my Master’s studies in International Human Rights Law, has strongly positioned me to engage meaningfully with the Court’s important mandate. I appreciate the confidence the Court has placed in me, and I look forward to contributing meaningfully to the pursuit of justice and the development of the African human rights jurisprudence.
I also bring to this role a continuing academic and practical interest in international criminal and human rights law, including through my authorship of the book “International Criminal Pre-Trial Justice: The Challenges to Fair Trial in Pre-Trial Proceedings at the International Criminal Court.” (Copies of which can be found at the Court’s library)
I am truly honoured by this enlisting and I am fully committed to serving with integrity, competence, and dedication to the values enshrined in the African Charter. I look forward to positively impacting the promotion and protection of human and peoples’ rights across our continent.
Please accept the assurances of my highest consideration.
